Prague Museum Night 2009 – June 20, 2009

The Night is a project organized by the National Museum, Prague Public Transport Company Inc. and Association of Museum and Galleries of the Czech Republic in cooperation with other museums and cultural institutions. Admission to all sites which take part in the Museum Night is free, or a symbolic fee is required. A list of participating museums will be known one day in advance. There is usually a manifold of accompanying events, such as recitals, concerts, etc. If you consider a visit on this day, be very patient, the Night is famous and there are long queues.

Municipal house

Municipal house The house is one of the most significant Art Nouveau buildings in Prague. It is located in the very centre of Prague, directly neighbouring the Powder Gate. The most significant Czech painters and sculptors of the time participated in the decoration of the Municipal House, e.g. Alfons Mucha. Since the very beginning, the Municipal House has been a multifunctional building. The halls and lounges are used to arrange conventions, conferences, concerts, balls and fashion shows. They are accessible to the general public only in the form of commented tours.

Jewish Museum in Prague

Jewish Museum The museum was established 1906. The original aim was to preserve valuable artefacts from the Prague synagogues that had been demolished during the reconstruction of the Jewish Town at the beginning of the 20th century. During World War II the museum was closed and under the communist government its function was limited. It is now a non-state organization.

National museum

National museum The National museum is a Czech museum institution intended to systematically establish, prepare and publicly exhibit natural scientific and historical collections. At present the National Museum houses almost 14 million items from the area of natural history, history, arts, music and librarianship, located in tens of buildings. The main museum building is located on the upper end of Wenceslas Square and was built by prominent Czech neo-renaissance architect Josef Schulz from 1885 – 1890.

The Museum of Czech Music

The Museum of Czech Music The Museum of Czech Music is part of the Prague National Museum, which is seperated into the three expositions: Muzeum of Antonin Dvorak, Muzeum of Bedrich Smetana and the seat of museum in Karmelitská street in the Lesser Town.

Naprstek Museum

The Naprstek Museum is a museum of Asian, African and American art in the city centre of Prague. It is part of the Prague National Museum. It was founded by Vojta Náprstek.

The Museum of Communism

The museum focuses on the totalitarian regime from the February coup in 1948 to its rapid collapse in November 1989. The theme of the Museum is "Communism- the Dream, the Reality, and the Nightmare" and visitors will be treated to a fully immersive experience. Immersive factories, a historical schoolroom, an Interrogation Room, or the video clips in our Television Time Machine are all part of the experience. The museum is a great introduction before you step back even further in time and experience the wonders of The Golden City.

Prague Castle

Prague Castle Prague Castle is a castle in Prague where the Czech kings, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. The Czech Crown Jewels are kept here. Prague Castle is one of the biggest castles in the world (according to Guinness Book of Records the biggest ancient castle) at about 570 meters in length and an average of about 130 meters wide. Most of the castle areas are open to tourists. Nowadays, the castle houses has several museums, including the National Gallery collection of Bohemian baroque and mannerism art, exhibition dedicated to Czech history, Toy Museum and the picture gallery of Prague Castle.

Vyšehrad

Vyšehrad Vyšehrad is a castle located in the Czech Republic, built in the tenth century, on a hill over the Vltava River in Prague. Situated within the castle is the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul, as well as the Vyšehrad cemetery, containing the remains of many famous people from Czech history, among them Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana and Karel Čapek.

Rudolfinum

Rudolfinum The Rudolfinum is a music auditorium and one of the most important neo-renaissance buildings in Prague. It is situated at Jan Palach Square on the bank of the river Vltava. For many decades it has been the home-stage of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. The building also contains the Galerie Rudolfinum, an important Art Gallery that focuses mainly on contemporary art.
