Introduction to Czech Women’s Lacrosse
Veronika Brychcinova

Czech Women‘s Lacrosse, despite being one of the smallest lacrosse communities, is hosting one of the greatest lacrosse event – the World Cup.

World Cup 2009, being the 8th annual is special. First, it is the last event held under the patronage of the IFWLA [International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations], the international body of which Czech Lacrosse has been a proud member since 1992. Another extraordinary and important feature of the World Cup 2009 is the number of its participants - it has grown up by six countries since the last World Cup in 2005 and has doubled since 2001.

Although this has significantly increased the demands from the organizational point of view, the Czech Women’s Lacrosse is ready to face this great challenge, the challenge that indicates a very promising and encouraging trend – an undisputable growth of Women’s Lacrosse internationally. The World Cup 2009 is going to be celebration of the sport of lacrosse and Czech Women’s Lacrosse is happy and proud to be the host country.

Czech Women´s Lacrosse (CWL) is ready to maintain the highest standards of the tournaments of such importance and, with the support of a small but highly enthusiastic local lacrosse community and supportive city municipality, will organize an event which will be memorable for all the participants.

We are proud to announce that Mr. Pavel Bém, The Mayor of Prague, Mr. Vladimír Srb, president of the Czech Sport Association, and the Municipality of Prague 10 provided the official patronage for the championship.

We are looking forward to celebrating this major occasion together with you here in Prague.
